Agenda
1. Poem/ Blog
2. Author's Chair
3. Finish P.E.E.L.L Paragraphs with groups
4. Lit Circle Book Perusal

Homework
  • Prep for final  Malala reflection quote selection
  • Finish P.E.E.L.L. paragraphs if not finished during class
  • *Illustrate top 3 lines

Today for our daily class routine, we picked two poems to recite instead of four. We chose one old poem ( "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks) and a new poem ("Sonnet 73" by William Shakespeare). Next we went over our daily blog which was published by Erik Goynes. Then Ms. Witham went over our homework for the night and  told us to share our P.E.E.L.L. (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Language and Link) paragraphs with our table groups for about minutes. We were supposed to be finding evidence to support our P.E.E.L.L. paragraphs and write them down on our P.E.E.L.L. strategy.

Unfortunately,  Ms. Witham had a lot planned for today but we spent the entire period on our paragraphs so she offered the Malala book to people who would like to work on it at home. After that Ms. Witham went over what we are going to do tomorrow. When we walk into the classroom we receive a writing prompt that will help us write our final reflection in-class essay. Then the bell rang and I published my bomb blog.

Begin choosing an experience for your personal narrative

Today we started off by reading our four poems for the beginning of class. Then Ms. Witham explained our homework to us so that we would have a better understanding of it. We can use ideas from our Random Autobiographies to help us decide on a significant event to write about. After that we finished our final two groups for our Reader's Theater, which is the reading and explaining of certain passages of the book I Am Malala.

Then we practiced for the first time today how to do the P.E.E.L.L. (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Language, Link) strategy, which Ms. Witham gave us ten minutes to get as far as we could on, and she gave us the option of working by ourselves or with our group. Then we turned in our R.A. (Random Autobiography) and the period was over.

Agenda
1) Poem
2) Current Event Quickwrite
3) Reader's Theater

Homework
1) Continue C.E.Q (current event quickwrite)
2) Type and print R.A

The class started with the reading aloud of our three poems. After going over the agenda, Ms. Witham explained to us Reader's Theater, which was an activity involving reading and explaining a selected part of the book I Am Malala to the class. We spent some time choosing in our groups which part we would read, which had to connect to a character, conflict, or theme. Somewhere in the middle of that, two people came in to check if we had our textbooks, so we got 30 seconds of a break.

After reading through three parts of the book, we added a PEELL (Point Evidence Explanation Language and Link) for Malala and a current event quickwrite to our journal. Ms. Witham explained it to us, and it was left for homework.

Agenda
1) Poem/Blog
2) R.A. share --> Revision strategy: +Sensory details
3) Academic Discourse --> Save the last word
Homework
1) Finish R.A.R.D (Random Autobiography Rough Draft)

Today in class we started off by reading our poems, we added a new poem called "Lodged" by Robert Frost to our repertoire. After that we went over Roberto's First Blog, then Ms.Witham went over what made a good productive group. There were a lot of hand signals and what not but I didn't really hear anything because I was typing this blog. When Ms.Witham finished talking about being a good productive group she went over the R.A. (Random Autobiography). She had a few plain sentences and said that instead of leaving them plain we should add some more details to our sentences. So Ms.Witham gave us some time to do some silent work (with a pen for correcting) on our R.A. so that we could add details.

When we were finished with our work some of the students in the class shared some of the revisions they made with the class. After that we continued our "Save The Last Word" work where we shared our favorite Dialectic Journal from I Am Malala with our group and heard their responses.

Then the class was dismissed.

So we started the day with the usual poems then the picking of the new blogger. After this we went to the SSR of the book I am Malala. While everyone else was reading I asked Ms. Witham if I'll be receiving extra credit. She said "no," and also asking for extra credit is one of Ms. Witham's least favorite questions. Next, Ms.Witham gave us the directions to write down pickup malala after 4th period if it wasn't finished. Once that happened we were able to share our future map with someone we've never talked to. After this Janna showed off her great art work and it was very creative and colorful. Ms. Witham lets us know ahead of time that in November we will be doing a novelist type thing together. That is it for the day, thanks for reading.
